Beginner Facebook For Dentists Who Hate Facebook
What is the purpose of having a Facebook page if you are a dental office? and you despise social media...like so many do? In a nutshell it helps to complete the puzzle of who you are for potential patients and it's an opportunity to passively keep in touch with current patients who only spend a few minutes with you every year. Although occasionally you may have a new patient who finds you through social media the more common benefit is relational.
Facebook is inexpensive, relatively easy to utilize, invites information sharing and self promotion which can be very beneficial for a dental practice. I can understand avoiding social media on a personal level, but on a business level it does NOT make sense.
You don't have to like it, you don't even have to see it- but you should have someone in your office (or a professional) create and maintain a social media presence for your dental practice.
A few beginner tips:
Stay true to your brand & know your audience
A pediatric practice, a family practice and a cosmetic focused practice should all be posting content that is geared toward their specific patient base. You want to attract "followers" who are interested in your specific style of dentistry. Looking at other offices Facebook pages can help you get a feel of how you would like your page to look and feel.
Here is a local periodontist who is doing Facebook right! He shares lots of great information and manages to make it interesting and comes across as personable.

Be Positive... ALWAYS!
Social media has it's fair share of bullies - if you put yourself out there at some point you will have to deal with people saying untrue/ hateful things towards you, your employees or business.
Now you need "followers"
Once you have created your office page you'll need to attract followers. Lucky for you, you have an entire practice of people who might be interested. Or if you don't, you probably have some family members or employees you could convince to follow your page.
Send out email newsletters and put a sign in your reception area letting people know the good news... you are now on Facebook!
Giveaways can work really well for acquiring new Facebook followers and increasing engagement/interactions.
This is an idea for a March Madness themed giveaway ↓
You could also tweak this to be a Patient Appreciation giveaway and allow patients to enter while in the office. I didn't want to limit this to just patients because the goal here is to gain more local socail media followers.

As with all things in life Don't Be an A$$h0le!
You have to train yourself to see these as opportunities to show others how gracious you are in situations that don't warrant grace. Trust me, when negative comments are made your social media followers grab their popcorn and hope for a show. Now you need "followers"
