What Is A Virtual Assistant

A virtual assistant is a person who is self-employed and remotely assists you from a home office with tasks that you don't have the time, skill or interest in doing yourself.

Although there is overlap in most industries I limit myself to working only with dental practices. I am a registered dental hygienist by trade with over 20 years of experience in dentistry I find that I can offer a more tailored service because of my understanding and connections in this profession.

4 Things To Do Before Hiring A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT

  1. make lists:  What areas do you need help with? The bigger the list the better. Frequently I can offer my clients insight and assistance in areas that they hadn't considered asking for help. I also like to set realistic expectations and identify areas that I will not be able to provide assistance. This will also help you get a feel for their experience level. What questions do you have? the more questions the better. Having all the info on the front end is always preferable.
  2. interview:   Interviewing multiple potential assistants prior to hiring is ideal. You will undoubtedly notice a difference in philosophy, personality and education. As a virtual assistant I welcome questions because it helps me to identify if I think we can form a successful partnership. The goal should always be to find the right fit and get the best outcome. I frequently refer potential clients to other professionals who are better suited to fit their needs. This isn't a one size fits all world. Click here for a list of interview questions
  3. portfolio:  ask to see examples of previous work, this will look different in each specialty. This is an example of my work experience that I will send to potential clients so they can get a feel for my style and capabilities.
  4.  contact referenceshear me on this one! The internet is a tricky place and it is easy to falsely represent yourself and potential. Prior to hiring someone take 5 minutes to "fact check" their work ethic. Send an email or pick up the phone and at the very least ask these 3 questions:
    1. What were this candidates strengths when working with you?
    2. How long did they work with you?
    3. Is there anything I should know before hiring this candidate?

If you are looking for an assistant or have any questions don't hesitate to contact me- I'm happy to help!
